As we age we lose volume in different areas of our faces, the lips included.
Lip contouring, or lip augmentation, is a procedure that provides plumpness to the lips with an FDA-approved dermal filler.
Depending on the dermal filler. the results can last anywhere between six months and one year. At Esthetica MD, located in Englewood, NJ, there are many dermal filler options to choose from in order to give you the look you desire. Come in for a comprehensive consultation with Dr. Rabkin to see which dermal filler will give you the perfect pout.
Lip contouring or lip augmentation is a technique that sculpts your lips to better suit the structure and shape of your face. This non-surgical, in-office procedure takes only 15 to 20 minutes with patients experiencing very little discomfort after their procedure with Dr. Dimitry Rabkin at Esthetica MD. Dr. Rabkin offers the advanced micro cannula technique, which means you won’t have to endure needles or injections and practically no bruising. Since he’s an expert in anatomy, your results will look as natural as possible.
Lip contouring is not only for those patients who have a loss of volume. Many younger women opt for lips that are more pouty, plush and prominent. Some patients have an uneven lip contour and will consider a lip augmentation to make their lips more symmetrical. If you’re 50 or older, you may ask to reshape and redefine your lips because they’ve lost volume, as lips naturally become thinner with age.
Lip augmentation is a temporary solution, but you can repeat the procedure as often as you like, as there is no risk associated with the procedure.
How Lip Augmentation Works
Dr. Rabkin first evaluates your facial anatomy and discusses with you your concerns to determine what improvement will work best for you. Your issue may not be thin lips, but problems with your cupid’s bow or the natural symmetry between your lips and the corners of your mouth.
The safest way to get fuller, plumper lips is using specific dermal fillers. The treatment requires very little to no downtime. Lip fillers containing natural hyaluronic acid add volume to your lips, improving the appearance of your lips and face as a whole. Some of the options Dr. Rabkin may recommend are:
The Lip Contouring Process
Most lip fillers have hyaluronic acid as the main ingredient, which is a safe, naturally-occurring substance in your body. Hyaluronic acid helps keep your lips hydrated, as it attracts and holds 1,000 times its own weight in water and keeps your lips plumper, naturally.
Dr. Rabkin starts the treatment by applying a topical numbing lotion on your lips. If necessary, an anesthetic can be injected to numb the area where micro cannula is introduced. The dermal filler is placed strategically into your lips to restructure and add volume, resulting in symmetrical, full and plump lips.
Results of Lip Plumping Injections
While these fillers don’t result in permanent lip augmentation, they can last a long time. Your treatment lasts anywhere from six months to one year. How long your contoured lips last depends on the type of dermal filler chosen for you and how quickly your metabolism breaks it down. The only permanent lip augmentation is surgical, where complications from the procedure are high.
To get the best results, repeat procedure every 5-9 months is recommended. Some swelling is expected with this procedure which subsides in 24-48 hours.
Aftercare Do’s and Don’ts
After your treatment, your lips may feel tender. Icing your lips reduces any swelling or tenderness. Hot beverage and hot food are not recommended for 4-8 hours following the treatment.
Although lip augmentation treatment doesn’t stop you from going about your daily routines, you do need to avoid vigorous exercise or facials for 24 hours following your treatment. Inversions or certain yoga poses are not recommended for at least 24 hours. To schedule an appointment to discuss options for lip augmentation or treatment call us at 201-816-8106.
