Submental fullness, or what most people refer to as fatty deposits under the chin, can make you seem older or heavier than you really are.
If you’ve maintained a healthy diet and exercise program, but can’t seem to lose the fat from this area of your face, a relatively new injectable called Kybella may be an answer you’ve been looking for to get the jawline you’ve dreamed of.
At Esthetica MD, located in Englewood, NJ, Dr. Dimitry Rabkin has been effectively treating the submental fullness with Kybella since it first launched a few years ago.
Kybella permanently eliminates moderate fat under your chin. This fat is commonly referred to as a double chin. Among other skin rejuvenation treatments, Kybella is an injectable substance consisting of deoxycholic acid that occurs naturally in your body — it’s one of the bile acids in your stomach, responsible for breaking down fat. The Food and Drug Administration approved this injectable agent in 2015.
Patients with moderate fat deposits under the chin are candidates for this procedure. Kybella may not be the best option for significant double chin or those who are looking to achieve significant weight loss. Kybella may be a desirable option to traditional liposuction. The results are permanent, however a series of treatments may be required to achieve optimal and permanent results. Kybella before and after photos.
Prior to scheduling a Kybella injection procedure, a thorough consultation with Dr. Dimitry Rabkin is highly recommended to ensure your cosmetic goals are discussed and it is determined that this procedure is right for you. The treatment itself is very quick – approximately 20-30 minutes. You may schedule your first treatment on the same day as your consultation.
Depending on the degree of submental fat present, multiple treatments may be required. Unlike a traditional liposuction procedure, no downtime is associated with this treatment.
Kybella Treatment Process
Dr. Rabkin marks the treated area and you may be given ice or a numbing agent to help with any discomfort. The procedure involves multiple injections with a nano gauge needle under your chin. A slight burning sensation may be experienced during the injection, however, it quickly goes away and ice can be applied after to reduce any discomfort.
Side Effects of Kybella Injections
Most common and expected effects of the injection that will resolve are:
Significant swelling is normal for the next few days following the procedure. This resolves around 2-3 days.
Kybella Chin Aftercare
Since moderate swelling is expected, you may want to schedule your procedure when your social or business calendar allows for a few days of downtime. After you receive a treatment, take it easy for the rest of the day. Smoking, drinking alcohol or caffeine, or eating spicy, salty or very sweet foods should be limited, at least for the next day or two. You can otherwise return to your normal activities right away unless otherwise noted by Dr. Rabkin.
You may need more than one treatment to achieve your desired results. The optimal results are typically noticeable after two to four treatments but sometimes more are necessary.
Remember that you need at least 4 weeks between each session. Once you’ve reached your desired results, no further treatments are needed. Contact Esthetica MD today for your visit.
