Love Your Nose After Liquid Rhinoplasty

Everyone—Even You!—Can Have a Perfect Nose

Unhappy with your nose? You’re not alone. In fact, more than 200,000 people in the U.S. sniff out a surgeon to correct their bumps, beaks, and bridges with a scalpel every year. But what if you’re not ready to for such a permanent nip of your nose? If you’ve been researching in-office procedures, you’ve probably heard of the non-surgical nose job, otherwise known as “liquid rhinoplasty,” or the “injectable nose job” treatment.

Rather than going under the knife with six months to a year of recovery time, these procedure use injectable fillers—most commonly hyaluronic acid ones like Restylane and Juvederm or calcium hydroxyapatite (Radiesse)—to immediately camouflage, alter, and shape a person’s nose without invasive surgery.

They’re a great way to enhance, correct, and minimize certain nasal features, including creating an instant bridge, hiding humps, or adding contour to a wide nose, making it appear visually smaller and more symmetrical. Plus, there are a host of other benefits:

  • Instant results! Procedures take less than 30 minutes.
  • Affordable: Injectables cost a fraction of the surgical alternative.
  • No downtime: You’re in and out the same day.
  • It goes the distance: Results last from nine to 16 months.
  • It’s completely reversible! Not satisfied with your results? A small amount of “filler eraser” can be injected to bring back your original look.

Not feeling the look of your nose due to oily skin, blackheads, or broken capillaries? Here are a few tips on how to keep these pesky problems at bay:

Oily Skin

  • Reach for face washes with ingredients like glycolic and salicylic acids.
  • Don’t wash your face excessively: it can lead to overproduction of oil in the skin.
  • Moisturize daily with an oil-free moisturizer to keep skin in balance.

  • Reach for topical face washes and topical applications containing salicylic acid, which can help control the accumulation of oil in your pores.
  • Get regular facials help to keep your pores clear of debris.
  • Look for products with vitamin A, which will not only keep your pores clear but also combat fine lines and wrinkles.

Broken capillaries

  • Find out the cause: many factors can cause this to happen, including genetics, excessive sun exposure, even allergies.
  • Laser treatments are the only way to treat existing broken capillaries. Pulsed dye, KTP and YAG lasers are quick treatments that can help the cause.
  • Don’t pick or squeeze your skin.

How to Make the Most of Your Moisturizer

Timing is everything, especially when it comes to your beauty routine. If you’re spending a bundle on expensive over-the-counter day creams and night creams and not seeing results, it might be time to check the clock: the effectiveness of the treatments you use—and when you use them—can be as different as, well, night and day.

Day Creams

Think of your morning skincare regimen as the armor to help your skin battle against the onslaught of daytime’s biggest skin offenders, including sunlight, pollution, and stress. That’s why day cream formulas typically contain generous amounts of SPF and anti-oxidants. They also have a lighter consistency, making them easier to apply under makeup.

Night Creams

Nighttime products are specially formulated to repair skin and reduce damage incurred during the day. They tend have a heavier consistency and are packed with ingredients like peptides and growth factors, both of which aid in improving cell turnover. Some may also include wrinkle-reducing retinols, which should only be used at night, as they cause skin to become sensitive to light.

No matter which treatments you use, the key to achieving maximum results is to apply them consistently every day—and night. And remember, there’s never a wrong time to start taking better care of your skin.

How to Repair Damaged Skin: Does the Secret Lie in DNA Repair Enzymes?

With warmer weather and sunny days right around the corner, it’s time to not only rethink your skincare regimen (repeat after us, “I will use sunscreen!”) but also start to address the damage it’s already encountered over the years.

Enter DNA repair enzymes: those much-talked-about naturally occurring mechanisms inside your cells that work to reverse years of damage from the sun’s powerful UV rays.

But is there actual hope behind the hype? Repairing damaged cellular DNA is something the cosmeceutical industry has been striving for decades to achieve, but to date the only natural-repair mechanisms that have been proven to work are vitamins A and D. The reason? DNA repair enzymes are proteins that cannot easily penetrate through skin.

One repair enzyme, photolyase, has been shown to reduce UVB-radiation-induced DNA damage markers by 45 percent and increase UV protection by 300 percent. So, if you are heading to the beach, consider packing NEOVA’s DNA Total Repair in your tote bag, in case of sunburn.

However if you are looking for a miracle cure for anti-aging, we would recommend you depend on the natural mechanisms of DNA repair afforded by vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin D, resveratrol, green tea and other antioxidants.  These are tried and true solutions for skin issues that have years of clinical trials and research to back them up.

Plastic Surgery Trends for 2017

We all want to look like a perfect 10, so take note of these six red-hot cosmetic surgery trends for 2017, according to an annual survey of the country’s top aesthetic associations.

Plastic Surgery Booms!
North America and Europe will continue to dominate the global plastic surgery market, due to the growing aging population and increasing acceptance of aesthetic procedures. Doctors who have practiced cosmetic surgery for many years have witnessed significant paradigm changes, noting a significant shift toward non-invasive procedures and patients looking for a quick fix of their necks, chests, hands, elbows, and more.

Designer Fillers
This year will see the introduction of even more targeted products that can target specific concerns more effectively than ever before. A number of new fillers have been already been introduced to the market, including Juvederm Voluma for mid-face lifts, Juvederm Volbella for fine lines around the lips, Restylane Lyft for lip augmentations, with Restylane Refyne and Defyne—designed specifically for improving smile and laugh lines—coming soon.

PRP Injections
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) procedures continue to gain popularity, being utilized for everything from hair restoration to facial re-contouring to anti-aging therapy to vaginal rejuvenation, just to name a few.

Breast Implants
Breast augmentation continues to be the most popular cosmetic procedure performed in the U.S. for the second year in a row, but don’t assume bigger is better. Instead, patients are requesting implants that are smaller, more athletic and authentic-looking.

Fat-Melting Injections
Kybella injections—typically administered to eliminate double chins—will pick up traction, being used for other fat-storing areas of the body, including above the knees, bra lines, back rolls, and more. Also promising is Topokine latanoprost, a topical treatment for treating fat pockets specific to the under-eye area.

Multi-Task Technology
Patients don’t just want fat removal in traditional areas like the stomach and the inner thighs; they want tighter skin and less cellulite. Expect to see a boon in multi-tasking devices like VelaShape that are able to contour, sculpt, and tighten problem areas at the same time.

Spa Treatments That Work for Great Skin: Peels

Used to be that the words “chemical peel” could invoke fear in the hearts of even the biggest of beauty buffs. Sure, they worked wonders as a spa treatment when it came to producing a spotless, lineless, flawless complexion, but at what cost? Pain, for starters (thanks to harsh glycolic acids). The horror of watching Samantha Jones get one on that infamous “Sex and the City” episode could scare anyone.

But just as that classic show gets better with time, so too does this classic beauty treatment. Acid formulas have been refined, and so have dermatologists’ approaches to using them. Today’s chemical peels are designed to work synergistically to resurface the skin and encourage cell-turnover, and have become virtually pain-free, thanks to a variety of non-glycolic ingredients, including acids from natural sources like bitter almonds and grapes.

Not only can today’s peels be layered to address specific concerns, but they can also be enhanced with specialty boosters to address a client’s specific skin type, age and skin sensitivity. This allows a spa to achieve the specific goals of each client, with no downtime and no obvious signs of shedding.

To achieve best results, a series of three treatments—scheduled one to two weeks apart—is recommended. For more information on our exclusive chemical peels, or other skin-smoothing services, call Dr. Rabkin at (201) 816-8106 today!

Beyond Botox

Sure, Botox is known for smoothing over wrinkles by relaxing the underlying muscles, but what else can it do? The FDA has already approved the neurotoxin as a treatment for migraines, overactive bladder, excessive sweating, and even certain types of muscle spasms. And Allergen, the owners of Botox, are looking into what else the drug can accomplish. Can it, for example, drive carpools, make quesadillas, or change sheets? Doctor, can Botox walk my dog? No, sadly, it can’t.

They do believe it can, however, treat depression. In a recent 258-patient study of adult women they found that those given 30 units of Botox showed a decrease in symptoms of depression. No one knows yet exactly how or why this is effective, but one possibility is the facial feedback hypotheses. This theory states that relaxing and releasing the muscles around the eyes and forehead that are used to express sadness, anger, and fear, eases depression. A 2006 study in the Journal of Dermatology found this to be true in 9 out of 10 patients treated with Botox.

So, while you’re going to have to keep looking around for that quesadilla-making, dog-walking machine, with any luck the people at Allergen will get FDA approval to treat depression with Botox and find it to be as effective as it is in treating migraines because a world with fewer migraines and less depression would be a really great thing.

Drugstore cleansers, toners, and creams are nice, but they can only go so far when it comes to perking up sullen skin. It might be time to try something a little more aggressive—like microdermabrasion.

This advanced resurfacing procedure uses a spray of super-fine exfoliating crystals to remove the outermost layer of dry, dead skin. In addition to its powerful exfoliating ability, this non-chemical, non-invasive treatment also encourages the production of collagen and elastin, helping to further improve your skin’s appearance and give you the golden glow you crave.

So, ready to indulge in some real rejuvenation? Here’s Dr. Rabkin with all you need to know about this oh-so-smoothing beauty treatment.

What are the benefits of microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion provides a host of cosmetic benefits, including:

  • Refreshing skin’s texture, color, and improving your overall “glow.”
  • Refining pores and improving certain types of acne.
  • Minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
  • Reducing the appearance of dark spots and discoloration

How many treatments will I need to see results?

Depending on how much acne or pigment you have and how sensitive your skin is, a typical series should include approximately 3-5 treatments (30 to 60 minutes each) spaced 1-4 weeks apart, followed by a maintenance regiment.

Is microdermabrasion painful? How long do sessions last?

Microdermabrasion is considerably gentler then other forms of skin resurfacing. The most you’ll feel is a slight pulling sensation from the tiny vacuum and a mild exfoliating sensation.

What will I look like right after treatment? Is there downtime?
Don’t worry, you won’t resemble steak tartare. At most, skin may look slightly pink for 1-2 days after the treatment. Staying well moisturized during the treatment period is also recommended, as you may experience some dryness.

What are the possible medical or cosmetic side effects?
Microdermabrasion is quite safe when performed by an experienced, licensed aesthetician or a medical provider like an MA or an RN. You will also be temporarily more sun sensitive, so be sure to use sunscreen daily.

The Best Lip Filler? It’s brand new.

Best lip filler

When it comes to which part of their look women most want to improve, it’s not the eyes that have it—it’s the lips! From celebrities like Kylie Jenner to world-famous supermodels and red-carpet beauties, having fuller lips has never been hotter. Now, getting them is easier than ever, thanks to Juvederm Volbella.

A member of the Juvederm family of products, Volbella is an FDA-approved, non-surgical lip filler used to increase lip fullness and soften the appearance of lines and wrinkles around the mouth. Although specifically formulated for the lips and mouth area, it may also be used to fill pitted acne scarring in the face as well as restore volume under the eye area.

Unlike other fillers, Volbella contains exclusive VYCROSSTM technology, which blends different molecular weights of naturally occurring hyaluronic acid, allowing it to create subtle volume (no “trout pout” here!) that lasts for up to a year.

Juvederm Volbella is great for improving a variety of common complaints around the lip area, including:

  • Smoothing smoker’s lines, the vertical creases that form around the lips, usually due to frequent pursing.
  • Plumping “marionette” lines, which extend from the edge of your lips to your chin.
  • Correcting downturned lips that give you the appearance of a permanent frown.
  • Enhancing your cupid’s bow (the dip, or “M,” in the center of your upper lip).
  • Adding contour to your lips by accentuating the vermillion border (the outline of your lips).
  • Giving lips a fuller, plumper, more-defined appearance.

Stop paying lip service to your dream of a new and improved you! For more information on Juvederm Volbella, or other facial fillers, call Dr. Rabkin at (201) 816-8106 today!

Skin Treatments Using Venom WORK! Here’s Why

Beauty by Venom

skin-treatments-using-venom-in-bergen-county-njIf you are on the fence about Botox, but want to tip your toes in the anti-aging pool, there are products on the market that minimize collagen break down caused by facial expression. In other words wrinkles and laugh lines. Have you ever heard of snake or bee venom used in anti-aging serums? We have. Here is the scoop.

The big question is the snake or bee venom a replacement to Botox? The answer is NO. If you want to achieve the relaxing and rejuvenating effect that only botulinum toxin type A (Botox, Xeomin or Dysport) can give you, then you should go for it. However, serums containing muscle relaxing ingredients can soften muscle movement and prolong the effect of Botox, as long as you use them consistently.

Essentially, what these wrinkle minimizing products have in common are what’s called neuro transmitter peptides. They limit muscle contraction which in turn can slow down appearance of fine lines associated with facial expression over time with continuous use. The three most well known neuro transmitter peptides are Hexapeptide 8 (mimics viper snake venum), Pentapeptide 18, and Dipeptide. Results can be seen in approximately three weeks of daily topical application at home. Much sooner if combined with professional facial treatments, like microneedling or sono phoresis.

The products we recommend are Environ Focus Frown Serum and Oxynergy Power Infuse FREEZE Serum.
