H2O – Drink It In
This time of year, everything is dry—most of all your skin. Thanks to cold winter air outside and hot, stuffy air inside, your arms and legs are itchy, your manicure is flaking off twice as fast, and your face is experiencing big-time breakouts.
Thankfully, finding relief is as simple as turning on the tap. That’s right—good ol’ H2O. You’ve heard it a hundred times: drink at least eight glasses of water every day. It’s not just an old wives tale. Fact is, every cell in your body is connected, and staying hydrated has myriad benefits, including maintaining a strong metabolism, healthy skin and nails and a clearer, younger-looking complexion.
So, what happens when you don’t drink enough water every day? Well, for starters:
- Lines and wrinkles become more noticeable
- Nails turn brittle and are more susceptible to splitting
- Skin feels dry, itchy, and prone to breakouts
- Under-eye bags become more pronounced
- Cellulite becomes harder to get rid of
Not a fan of the clear stuff? Try coconut water or skim milk, which will give you just a touch of the flavor you crave and keep you hydrated without adding extra calories. Or, eat them! Fruits and vegetables with high water content—like watermelon, oranges, and cucumbers—not only keep your H2O levels up, they’re also rich in vitamins and minerals that are essential to cellular health.
