The major misconception is that drying and scrubbing acne prone, oily skin will clear up acne and blackheads. The opposite is true. When skin becomes overly dry from scrubbing and over-applying drying products such as benzyoil peroxide, it creates an environment in which the skin is signaled that it is too dry and produces more oil. Also, blackhead or comedones are further inflames from excessive scrubbing. Products that help dissolve sebum are the most effective. Use drying products sparingly and look to lightly moisturize oily skin. The goal is to keep the skin balanced.
