Memories are golden and time with family is so precious. Most families invest in a portrait session at some point and with our lives so full, planning wardrobe and getting the family to a location for your shoot can be slightly stressful.

Here are some things to consider when planning for your family portrait:

Clothing should be well thought out but also comfortable- many make the mistake of being too dressed up. Consider where you will hang the artwork and make sure the colors of your clothes compliment the color scheme of your home.

Plan to get the dad and children’s hair cut a couple weeks before the shoot date so it has time to grow in and look natural.

Make up should be simple and natural.  Use an oil free foundation primer to make sure that your skin is oil/shine free.  If you have large pores, use a foundation primer that will even out the texture of your skin.

Highlight your best/favorite features.  Wear natural eyelash extensions, which will accentuate your eyes. Finally, use a high definition finish powder.  This will not only set your makeup, but will give you a smooth, shine free flawless complexion that will translate well on camera.

Get a manicure and pedicure before the shoot. Our photographer often has clients in bare feet so we want those feet to look their best!

Most importantly relax! Our photographer encourages family members to relax and be themselves allowing him to capture the family dynamics.
